ADIVASI ORGANISATIONS BLOCK RAILWAY LINES IN KOKRAJHAR

Several Adivasi organisations such as Adivasi National Convention Committee (ANCC) and Adivasi Suraksha Samiti (ASS) among others came together and staged a protest by blocking railway lines in Kokrajhar Railway station today. The protest was staged demanding the inclusion of the Adivasi communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. The protest started from six in the morning completely blocking the movement of trains to and from the Railway Station. The demands of the protest were to provide the status of ST to the Adivasi Communities, to cancel the Citizenship Amendment Bill, to increase daily wages to Rs 350 and to grant workers land patta among the other issues.

The protest caused a lot of trouble to the daily commuters passing through that route. Slogans such as ‘No ST, no rest’ were raised during protests.
