Harassment of genuine Indians in the name of ‘D’ voters and throwing them to detention camp continues unabated in Assam. After the much-talked Kargil War veteran case, the latest victim of whims and fancies of the administrative machineries is 45-year old Doly Roy of Golaghat.
The Foreigners Tribunal of Jorhat in an ex-parte judgment declared her foreigner.
Her fault? She was served with notices three times. But the fact is that it is her lawyer who had received the notices on behalf of her and did not inform her about this.
When yesterday police had gone to her house, they found her ill. She was asked to meet them with medical certificate today. Doly Roy met the police today with her medical certificate. But the FT judge reportedly refused to accept it and sent her to the detention camp.
“I have produced all documents including legacy data of 1951. The case is about one year old. I was summoned several times to produce documents and witnesses. They even asked my old and ailing mother to be present as a witness. She could not. Since I was also sick, I produced medical certificate today but the FT has refused to accept,” a visibly upset and sick Doly told Inside Northeast.
Doly is the only one among her family members to get the ‘D’ voter tag.
According to a neighbour of Doly, the Foreigners Tribunal served three notices to Doly before her arrest. Doly was sick and her lawyer kept her dark about the notices.
It is to be mentioned that a Kargil War veteran Muhammed Sanaullah was declared as a foreigner in Assam's Boko. The Gauhati High Court is looking into the matter and after hue and cry he has been granted bail.
