The AGP-BJP’s reunion after a bitter divorce amid the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 ruckus has come under much scrutiny and also criticism as the regional party has been widely panned for its ‘double standards’. The party, while claiming to represent the interests of the indigenous people of Assam, has rejoined the BJP despite the saffron party’s intention to enact the Bill if it manages to win the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Now, the party has been trolled on the streets of Assam as well. Three sons of Assam, Prasanta Barman, Pradip Barman, and Hiten Dutta staged a street demonstration play in Guwahati slamming the biggest regional party in Assam, the AGP, and the BJP. Prasanta Barman wore a placard on his chest proclaiming: ‘Betrayers of change, BJP.’ Pradip Barman’s wore a placard reading: ‘AGP hanging on the shoulders of BJP’ while Hiten Dutta wore a placard reading: ‘Assam’s black serpent, AGP’.
The three demonstrators trolled the AGP through song. “Oh AGP AGP, you have strangled the Assamese”, the demonstrators sang in a tune similar to the ‘Assamese naam’.
The demonstrators also trolled the three AGP leaders who resumed their Ministerial posts after reuniting with the BJP. “Greedy ministers Atul Keshav Phani, they are the combs of Sarba and Modi, you have become the lice of the BJP after kicking the Assamese people”, the three demonstrators sang.
“Do not vote for the AGP at any cost”, said Hiten Dutta, while addressing the media from the site of the demonstration.
