Addressing the media at AGP office in Ambari, Mahanta said the leaders of the regional party would soon take a “final decision”.
The relationship between the two parties was strained in recent times over the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 which the Centre wants to pass to legitimize the stay of non-Muslim immigrants of Bangladesh besides Pakistan and Afghanistan. The BJP favours the Bill’s passage. However, the AGP stands strongly opposed to it.
