Guwahati, February 14, 2019:

AGP President Atul Bora spoke to the media after arriving in Guwahati after the end of the struggles over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016."We have not just been vocal over the issue but we have moved into the streets to protest against the Bill. We have arranged a programme to awaken the people of Assam. We also gave full pressure to the Joint Parliamentary Committee members and even visited the Chairman of the committee along with other political parties to oppose the Bill. But unfortunately, the JPC submitted a report against the peoples’ consent.”

“After breaking the alliance with BJP, we met Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma in Tura and discussed the matter. Nearly 11 political parties of the North East and other parties of the country like the JD(U), Shiv Sena and many others have helped us to build opposition against the Bill. We met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh but nothing helped,” he added.

Thanking the organizations like the KMSS, AJYCP, and other organizations, the AGP leader also paid tribute to two members of the party, i.e. Gitanjali Das of Assam Mahila Parishad in Barpeta who died in a road accident while on her way to participate in a protest and Jyotish Das, a Dibrugarh constituency member who died for the same cause", added Bora.
