Guwahati, April 4, 2019:

In what is being seen as a major boost to the Congress party ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Assam, former legislator Jatin Mali, currently associated with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has left the party and joined the Congress. He cited disgruntlement with the current party leadership as the reason for joining the Congress.

Mali, along with his wife, joined the Congress party at Rajiv Bhavan in Guwahati in the presence of APCC president Ripun Bora, Punjab Finance Minister and other leaders of the Congress.

"I am highly dissatisfied with the way Atul Bora and co are running the party which seems to be on the verge of extinction. and thus, I am resigning from the party and will work for the Congress and against the AGP and BJP parties", he said.

The election in Assam will be held in three phases on 11, 18 and 23 April. The counting will take place on 23 May.
