GUWAHATI: The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), one of the latest political entrants in Assam, has formed an Economic Planning Advisory Council

Stating that there are two major responsibilities of a state with full statehood, the AJP said that a "fundamental one is to ensure security of the life and property of the people and next in importance is to lift the standard of living of the people through social and economic development."

Chiding the previously ruling parties for "insufficient attention of national parties to specific problems of Assam and lack of proper planning and adequate technical expertise within the ranks of the AGP, previous governments have mostly failed to adequately perform with respect to these two basic responsibilities."

The release stated that the "silent and invidious demographic invasion by Bangladeshis proved their failure in ensuring adequate internal security and the socio-economic integrity of Assam."

Pointing out that Assam was one of the most developed states of the country with per capita income 29% higher than the national average, it lamented that now it is less than half and one-fourth of the more developed states in the country.

"Assam Jatiya Parishad is committed to establishing economic and social upliftment for all legitimate residents of Assam," the release further said.

Stating that it is taking an initiative to develop a “Financial and Economic Roadmap” with practical short, medium and long-term steps to strengthen Assam’s economy, it added that the AJP has formed an Economic Planning Advisory Council under the chairmanship of renowned economist Jaimini Bhagwati.
