MARGHERITA: Sarbananda Sonowal today alleged that the two newest regional parties -- the AASU backed AJP and Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal -- are hands-in-glove with the Congress, the largest opposition party in the Assam Assembly.
Making an address in Upper Assam's Margherita today, Sonowal said that the two new political parties -- AJP and Raijor Dal -- are B-teams of the Congress party and if they are voted to power, Assam will revert back to the "dark ages."
On Sunday, more than 10,000 people gathered at Baragolai Bashbari playground after torrential rain to hear the BJP bigwigs make their cause.
BJP star campaigner and Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Minister for Food Processing Rameswar Teli were the prominent saffron party leaders who were present at today's meet.
"Under the Strong leadership of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, Assam has developed despite 15 years misrule of Congress. Due to the PM's Look East policy, we will now be developed economically, socially, culturally and in every other aspect," he added.
Amit Shah in his speech said that Assam is the land of rising Sun where under BJP,t many development works have been completed.
"During the Congress rule in Assam violence, agitation and corruption were the norms. After the formation of the BJP Government at Assam, our prime focus will be on solving the Assam floods, extremism, and agitations. It is very much a possibility," said Shah.
He also added that the tea garden workers' demands shall be fulfilled after the formation of the next BJP government in Assam.
"During the 15 years of Congress rule, tea garden workers were only used as vote banks," said Shah, attacking the previous government.
Himanta Biswa Sharma in his speech compared the Congress party to the demonetized currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 which nobody accepts.
"And now, Congress has allied with AIUDF which will be the biggest threat for our culture, tradition, and language which will all be at stake if the alliance comes to power."
"In the last election, Bhaskar Sharma won by 22,000 votes against Margherita's Congress heavyweight Pradyut Bordoloi. This time people of Margherita have to send Bhaskar Sharma to Assam Assembly with a bigger winning margin. If elected to power, the BJP will build a college at Jagun area, the existing 100-bedded Margherita Civil Hospital shall be upgraded to a 200-bed facility, tribes of Tirap region will get an Autonomous Council, NEC Coal India Limited Margherita shall re-commence coal production and Margherita College Science Stream shall finally be provincialized," said Biswa Sarma in a bid to woo voters.
