Gogoi’s son, who is 14 years old, had contracted Covid-19 and his mother also had not been keeping well. Against this backdrop, Gogoi was given a 2-day parole to meet his family. However, Gogoi’s son was very upset when he left, revealed the peasant leader. Gogoi spent the first day of his parole in Guwahati with his son and wife and the second day in his native village in Upper Assam with his mother Priyada.
From his mother’s house in Jorhat, Gogoi was brought straight to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he has been serving his sentence owing to his poor health.
Akhil Gogoi was arrested in December 2019 from Jorhat under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, (UAPA) for his alleged role in violent anti-CAA protests and probable nexus with the Maoists based on two cases filed in Chabua and Chandmari Police Stations.
