GUWAHATI: Jailed peasant leader and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi has urged his party workers as well as the common people to keep an eye on the EVM strong rooms so that the BJP could not manipulate them.
In a purported letter from jail, dated March 28, Gogoi also took note of a “misleading advertisement” published by the BJP on newspapers a day after the first phase of polling in Assam and described it as ridiculing the constitutional values of the democracy.
Calling the opposition naughty, Gogoi has written: “I appeal to the Raijor Dal workers to keep an eye on the strong rooms so that their hard works are not spoiled by misdemeanor of some miscreants. I also appeal to the people to keep an eye on the EVM strong rooms so that the BJP cannot manipulate them. Remember, our opposition is dangerously naughty.”

The EVMs will be kept in strong rooms for nearly a month after the Assam polls end on April 6. Counting will take place on May 2.
Referring to the BJP’s advertisement in newspaper front pages yesterday, Gogoi urged the people not to be swayed away by the “deceptive and immoral” advertisement.
Gogoi further claimed that Raijor Dal would win several seats that went to the polls in the first phase on Saturday. The BJP has claimed it would win at least 37 seats out of the 47 where pooling took place in the first phase, while the Congress has claimed it would 35 of those 47 seats.
