GUWAHATI: The All Assam Student Union (AASU) has slammed former Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) secretary and now MLA from Sibsagar Akhil Gogoi for his recent political statements and accused him of starting a politics of blackmailing for his hunger for power.

"People of Assam have understood his (Akhil Gogoi) real character. Those anti-CAA people now want to shine on national politics sitting on pro-CAA Mamata Banerjee's lap," said Samiran Phukon, general secretary of AASU Sivasagar.

"He has started a new politics of blackmailing and polluting the political character of Assam. He accuses that AASU ruined the anti-CAA protest in Assam. If that was the case then they should have led it alone. Akhil Gogoi should first contest and win from Mariani constituency and then he should make comments on other parties," Phukon added further.

Akhil Gogoi has been critical of AASU from time to time and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi had broken its alliance with Assam Jatiya Parishad, the bifurcated political wing of AASU, right after his release from jail.

Recently, four former KMSS members Anupam Baruah, Dharmendra Bora, Gopal Bora and Bhadra Baruah have accused KMSS of extortion and land grabbing in the name of protests.

Now Akhil Gogoi is seeing doing rigorous campaign for the upcoming by-election in the Thowra constituency of Sivasagar district.
