SIVASAGAR: Newly elected Sibasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi’s mother Priyoda Gogoi today visited Sivasagar to express gratitude to the people for electing her jailed son as their representative to the Assam assembly.
Akhil was declared winner from the Congress and Left bastion by a margin over 11,700 votes yesterday.
“It’s a great pleasure for me. I have come here despite my ailments to express my gratitude to the people of Sivasagar for all the hardship they overcame to elect him (Akhil) as their representative. I know, a lot of them have made great sacrifices in the process. May God bless all of them,” the octogenarian Priyoda Gogoi said here.

“Akhil has won. But, it’s not him. It’s the people who have won because they fought for him and it’s their win. Now that he has been elected, it’s the turn of the people govern themselves through him and proper consultation.
“My only wish is there should be honesty and transparency in every step so that all working together can build a golden Assam,” she added.
Priyoda Gogoi, who lives at Seleng TE in Jorhat district, had also visited Sivasagar during campaign programmes and took part in a few processions. He efforts along with the rest of Akhil’s well wishers and part workers ensured the victory.

He had earlier in the day issued an open letter thanking all employees, doctors and paramedics of the hospital as well as police personnel posted with him for all the support they provided him over the past few months when he was ailing.
