The All Assam Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union on Friday staged a massive protest against the government’s move for privatization of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and enhancement of their remuneration.
More than a thousand of Anganwadi workers and helpers took out a protest rally and staged sit-in demonstration giving slogans against the Centre and State government.
In a memorandum to the Director of Social Welfare, the Anganwadi workers raised their demands and expressed dissatisfaction over the government fulfilling various demands including gratuity, formulation of pension scheme, immediate enhancement of their remuneration, payment of minimum wages and increase in budget of ICDS.
Further the memorandum says, Social Welfare Minister, Pramila Rani Brahma assured the workers to look into the matter but with passage of time, the promises remain verbal but no action has been implemented.
