KOKRAJHAR: In the lead up to the polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls, United People's Front Liberal (UPPL) today fired salvoes at Bodoland People's Front (BPF) leader Anjali Daimary for her claims that his party is enticing the public to vote for it by promising to help them avail certain benefits and schemes.

"We have no reason to lie. Government of India has assigned Rs. 75,000 to each self help group. However, these funds have been misutilized by the BPF Government. Therefore, the Government schemes has not benefitted the womenfolk," he said, adding that the BPF is "completely responsible" for the lack of development in the region.

"Although I respect her (Anjali Daimary), it seems like she does not study the Government schemes. She is an international woman -- she goes to the UN headquarters at Geneva. However, she is not concerned about the grassroots level women. Frankly, she never was much interested. What she said today is not true," Bodo, a former All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), stated.

"We wish to promote enterpreneurship in the region. To do that, there are many schemes of the Government. The BPF party during its rule could have done that," he further added, stating that the UPPL party's prime motive will be to tap into those schemes to give wings to development in the troubled BTAD region.

"There are around 35 lakh people in the BTR region. Each and every one of those should get the benefits of the Government such as job cards, ration cards, etc. That is our only concern. Politics is of little consequence."
