GUWAHATI: 'Raijor Dal', the regional power planning to contest the Assembly, will float its most high-profile candidate -- peasant leader Akhil Gogoi -- from the Sivasagar Constituency in Upper Assam.

Gogoi, who is currently awaiting bail, is also likely to contest from Mariani -- currently a Congress stronghold.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court denied bail to Gogoi, who is lodged in a Guwahati jail for his alleged role in the violent anti-CAA protests in Assam.

A bench of justices N V Ramana, Surya Kant, and Aniruddha Bose dismissed Gogoi's bail plea, saying, "We will not consider the petition at this stage."

This was confirmed by BJP state President Ranjit Dass a little while ago.

‘Raijor Dal’, the newly-floated political party, with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act as its major poll plank, will contest in 18 Constituencies “to rid the Assam of the BJP.”

Raijor Dal is an Indian political party, launched on 2 October 2020 in Assam. It came into existence following differences between the peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi and ruling party BJP in Assam.

It shall contest the elections in an alliance with fellow regional party ‘Assam Jatiya Parishad.’
