Guwahati, April 27, 2019:

Assam Public Works (APW) president Abhijeet Sarma on Saturday alleged that rampant corruption is going on in the Irrigation department.

He alleged that in the last year, the department has appointed a working Assistant Engineer named Maneswar Deka in the post of working Engineer and added that the Department has appointed many Assistant Engineers to Engineer posts. He also claimed that the department is running the entire Guwahati branch under Assistant Engineers, which is a sensitive issue.

It is to be mentioned that Maneswar Deka before joining the Irrigation department was in DRDA for last ten years. Despite having experienced employees in the depart, Deka was shifted sharing connections with Minister Bhabesh Kalita.

Sharma also alleged that Deka is involved in transferring of employees rather than the departmental works in which Mrigen Boro and Pabitra Deka are involved. This has hampered the normal working of the department and as a result, the farmers of the state are suffering a huge loss.

Sharma has also said that nearly 800 posts will be open for appointment in the Department for which these officer is taking a sum of Rs 3 lakh each for the appointment.
