Arabinda Rajkhowa, Pro-talks United Liberation Front of Assam commented on the ongoing National Register of Citizens (NRC) process in the State on Monday.
Speaking to Inside Northeast, he said that the NRC should be taken forward in a legal and swift manner. "There are bound to be controversies in the process, there have been mistakes in the process and that is why there is dissent."
He further stated that the people of the state of Assam have the need of an NRC document more than those living in other states which is why it is being compiled.
The pro-talks ULFA leader further stated that the sacrifice of the people who laid down their lives for the sake of Assam's integrity should not go in vain.
Rajkhowa said that many indigenous organisations have been complaining about the discrepancies in the NRC. The leader added stated that these concerns must be addressed.
He also stated that the NRC process is being hindered by some forces who are don't want the process to be completed.
Rajkhowa also stated that there is evidence to suggest the process is not going smoothly and appealed the concerned authorities to take action regarding the same.
It is to be mentioned that many organizations and students bodies have alleged that there have been a lot of discrepancies have been made during NRC proceedings.
Meanwhile, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam has claimed discrepancies in the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The Dhing MLA slammed the NRC Objections claiming them to be fraudulent and illegal. MLA Aminul Islam also alleged that illiterate people are being made to sign misleading statements. “They are being made to sign a statement saying they do not have the requisite documents as alleged by the Objectors”, he alleged.
