Pasighat, October 25, 2019:

The Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) of Arunachal Pradesh has staged massive protests across Namsai district, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the arson of Community Hall and 14 houses in new Mabra village on October 12.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, AdiSU President, Nang Gao said that despite their repeated pleas and FIR being lodged, the administration, as well as police, were reluctant to arrest the culprits.

The accused have already been identified and the victims are living in a pathetic condition, lamented AdiSU President.

The students’ body also demanded the release of compensation to the villagers and reconstruction of Community Hall (Musup) which is one of the important centers of the Adi Community.

Gao added, “We are not against any community but all the accused who set fire to the Community Hall and left 14 houses, including 130 members homeless, must be arrested and punished as per the laid down laws.”

Speaker, AdiSU, Kalen Tadeng asserted, “The villagers are mainly from three villages of Mabira, Morapat, and Mazgaon under Chowkham circle of Lohit District and had lost all their lands and properties in the devastating floods of 2004. Since then the government and even the village chief of Chowkham have given his consent to settle in the new area.”

Though flood-affected villagers are settled in the forest area, it is not right to commit arson and take law in their own hands, Tadeng stated.
