The ashes of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed in rivers across the North-eastern States on Thursday.
Accompanied by several of his cabinet colleagues, besides State BJP leaders, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal immersed the ashes in the Brahmaputra in Guwahati’s Kasomari Ghat amid chanting of traditional Vedic hymns.
Earlier, the urn containing the ashes was taken out in a procession from Hengrabari area to Latasil playground, where it was kept for the people to pay their homage. An all-faith prayer meeting too was held at the venue, before it was taken to the Kasomari Ghat for immersing the ashes.
Similarly, ashes were immersed in the Brahmaputra at Dibrugarh and Dhubri, besides the Barak river at Silchar.
Likewise, the ashes of Vajpayee were also immersed in Imphal and Umshyrpi rivers in Manipur and Meghalaya respectively.
