Guwahati (Assam), September 16, 2018:

The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) has opposed the move for the construction of a permanent detention camps in the state to lodge people declared illegal immigrants.

The organisation said if the government constructs such a detention camp, it would result in making Assam a suitable dumping ground for the foreigners. The children born in these detention camps would be Indians by virtue of their birth in the country.

The ASM reminded the Centre that all other countries in the world expel the foreigners from their soil as soon as they are detected while the Indian government is planning to treat them as the country's guests, which is detrimental to its sovereignty.
