Among the 50,000 plus who participated in the protest, a 100-year-old granny, who identified herself as Shrimati Maikani Kalita, stood out the most. Upon being approached by Inside Northeast, the zealous granny said, “We will not accept foreigners at any cost”, and added that, “The CAB is useless….we will never accept it.”

It may be mentioned here that thousands upon thousands of people from all walks of life – joined the movement against the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Guwahati.

However, after the imposition of curfew and suspension of mobile data services in the State, life in the city is slowly limping back to normal.

Meanwhile, curfew has been re-imposed after a brief period of relaxation -- from 9 am to 4 pm. People could be seen returning to their normal lives during the brief period of relaxation, but a lockdown has been re-initiated with heavy security being deployed in the streets of the burning city, where smoke still rises from the piles of ashes, symbolic of protersters' wrath against the controversial C(A)A.
