Assam: 12 Accused Declared as "Criminals" in Lynching Case of Jhankar Saikia, Sentence on Feb 28

Diphu, February 24, 2020:

The Diphu District court has announced the names of twelve accused in the brutal mob lynching case of Jhankar Saikia on Monday.

The District Court will declare the punishment of the twelve accused on February 28. Out of the sixteen accused in the seven-year-old mob lynching case of Saikia, four have been declared fault-free.

It needs mention here that on June 25, 2013, Jhankar became the victim of mob assault in Diphu town in Assam. He was beaten to death by a group of auto-rickshaw drivers. Although he was rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to the injuries.

The grizzly mob lynching incident took place for a mere Rs 10 which instigated an unruly mob of auto rickshaw drivers.
