Guwahati, April 11, 2020:

Around 24 workers from Chirang, Assam are stuck in Chennai's Kanchipuram since March 24 and they have sought help from the Government to survive the lockdown period.

"We have been staying at home following the lockdown. We came here for work. All of us work with the BHM company. Since March 24, due to coronavirus we are stuck here. We have not received any help from the company or the Government. There is no ration left, we have no money. We are facing great difficulty," said Mimonol Brahma, one of the workers.

He added that all of them look forward to the lift of the curfew so that on April 16, they can return to their respective homes in Assam.

"We request the Government to help us survive and return home," he reiterated his plight. "Because of lockdown we are really suffering here. We have not eaten anything sine the past two days. We have not received any help from anyone. We have nothing with us. There is no work as the company is also closed," said Kumar.

"If not for coronavirus, we will die of starvation for sure if we are not provided with any support," he added, requesting for help from the Assam Government.

It may be mentioned here that thousands of people from Assam are stuck outside the State due to the lockdown and are now facing extreme difficulty in surviving the lockdown. Shortage of money, food and other essentials have added to their hardships outside.

They have appealed the State Government to provide them some relief and help them return to their homes in Chirang, Assam.

Daily wage laborers or the ones living hand-to-mouth are the worst hit during the lockdown. Their very base, their income source, their workplace are shuttered. With the States dwelling on extending the lockdown for another two weeks at least leaves them with no option but to seek help.
