Guwahati, March 14, 2019:

The wild elephant menace has continued in Baksa district’s Tamulpur. A 4-year-old girl, Mallika Pathak died in a wild elephant stampede at the Indo-Bhutan border's Dungar village last night.

Last last night, elephants entered her house after breaking through the walls and attacked the sleeping child. As per locals, the elephant had descended on the village from the Indo-Bhutan border at around 11 pm and proceeded to destroy many houses in the village. After being chased by villagers, the elephant barged into the house where the child was sleeping with her mother, Monalisa Pathak (35). The mother was also grievously injured during the incident.

It is to be mentioned that the forest officials reached the village early on Thursday morning and took the injured mother of the child for treatment.
