Assam reported a total of 1202 Coronavirus cases on July 4th, 2020 taking the state’s total to 11001. Out of the 1202 cases, 777 of these from Guwahati City alone. The state government has said to maintain “extra vigil” following the situation, especially for Guwahati. Following the detection, another 416 have been discharged. So far Assam has 11126 cases with 125 cases detected in Guwahati recently.

The recent spike of Corona virus cases has created concerns among the citizens of the state and to take stock of the situation, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma (HBS) addressed the media gathering. "If the lockdown would not have been announced, it would have created a big problem. So far, people have maintained the lockdown and police are on alert if needed", said HBS.

He then raised an important point about the testing numbers of the state. As stated by Niti Aayog Ceo, Assam ranks 4th in terms of testing done per million.

Assam is just behind Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in per million tests. Himanta Biswa Sarma has further said that "we will complete 5 lacs test in the next few days. Our faculties, scientists and lab technicians are working 24 hrs putting their life at risk. Hope some day people will recognise this selfless dedication of my team . Thank you
