TINSUKIA: In a tragic incident reported from Tinsukia district of Assam, a 5-year-old child died moments after being vaccinated at a local Anganwadi Centre. The incident transpired in Tinsukia's remote Lesenka Village, roughly 11 kilometres away from Tinsukia town.

This tragedy has unfolded days after it came to light that expired drugs were handed out at the Makum Railway School in Tinsukia. Even so, it seems like the Health Department of the State is not as alert as it should be.

On November 25, in Tinsukia's remote Lesenka Village, Subhajit Bora's only daughter was inoculated after she reached the age of 5. Roughly 30 minutes later, she started suffering from fever and was vomiting frequently. Although the parents took the suffering child to the Makum Block hospital, she could not be revived.

After these series of incidents, locals have condemned the Tinsukia health department for its alleged lackadaisical attitude.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased 5-year-old girl has filed an FIR in the Barekuri Police Station and demanded that a thorough investigation be carried out. They have also demanded that the guilty be punished.

"We have registered a UD case and only a post-mortem will reveal the actual cause of death of the girl. Only that can tell us what caused the unnatural death of the girl. Nothing can be said with certainty at the moment," a local police official said.
