Assam: 71-year-old man killed by wild elephant in conflict

71-year-old Chitranjan Chakraborty died in the early hours of Wednesday after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Digboi range of the Digboi Forest Division in Durgabari.

Dispur: 71-year-old Chitranjan Chakraborty died in the early hours of Wednesday after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Digboi range of the Digboi Forest Division in Durgabari.

According to officials, forest personnel hurried to the scene of the incident after receiving the information and completed the relevant formalities. A detailed report of the incident will be submitted soon.

The Range Officer has provided some support to the deceased's family in carrying out the last rites.

The Environment and Forest Department would pay Rs.4 lakh in compensation to the victim's killed by elephant next of kin after receiving the post-mortem report and other documents.

Man-elephant conflict in Assam

In  yet another incident of such a conflict in Assam, a  female elephant and her calf were seized by the Assam police for allegedly killing a boy.

Reportedly, the animal allegedly killed a 14-year old boy on July 8 in Bokakhat district of Assam.
