In a big relief to the migrant returnees amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Kokrajhar district administration in Assam has assured employment to around 8000 workers under MNREGA.

She further informed that bank authorities have been asked to make an opportunity for opening bank accounts for the migrated workers after thorough checking of identity profs.

Besides, the minister said that the state government has been taking initiatives to offer earning opportunities to the migrant returnees to the state.

“The state and Central governments have taken bold initiatives to make job opportunities in the state,” Brahma said while adding that the state government and district administration are relentlessly working to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

Moreover, she said necessary arrangements for home quarantined peoples have been made in the district. Brahma also appealed the people to maintain social distancing to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner Bhaskar Phukan informed that necessary discussion and decisions are initiated in the matter.

Talking about price hike of essential commodities in the market, Phukan assured that the district administration had taken serious note in the matter and would take appropriate action. “Necessary measures against price hike of essential commodities has been taken,” he added.

Various stakeholders including MLA Rabiram Narzary and Majendra Narzary were present in the meeting.

It may be mentioned that around 3 lakh people starnded in different parts of the counrty have returned to the state after the nationwide lockdown was relaxed. The state has registered nearly 2000 COVID-19 cases and claimed four lives so far.
