Assam: AASU Stages Massive Gathering against CAA in Tezpur

Tezpur, December 24, 2019:

On the eve of Christmas, thousands upon thousands gathered here in Nehru Maidan at Tezpur in Assam to vehemently oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.

The "Gana Samabesh" (or Mass Gathering) was organised by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) along with 30 other organisations, woth people from all walks of life and students joining in huge numbers.

Chief Advisor of All Assam Students Union, Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharya, President of AASU, Dipankar Kr. Nath, NESO President Shri Samuel Jawra, and many other prominent leaders were present during the protest and raised war cries against the controversial legislation.

Samujjal Bhattacharya, speaking to the media, condemned the CAA. Furthermore, he demanded the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Government to implement Clause 6 of the 'Assam Accord' to protect the state's identity and cultur. "Irrespective of any religion we don't want any Bangladeshi infiltrators", the AASU leader said.

Assam Heartthrob Zubeen Garg, who has been outspoken against the Bill, also addressed the, and mocked the Assam Government, sending the crowds into fits of laughter. Singer Dikshu Sharma, Vidyasagar and many other renowned musicians of the state also joined the protest and performed their hit musical numbers.
