The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) observed the 22nd death anniversary of Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary as Anti-Terrorism Day on Monday. The day was observed with an open session on the theme “New face of terrorism versus path to peaceful society”.
The ABSU asserted that as it believes in democracy and non-violence, it will never support killing of individuals. It clarified that the new face of violence and terrorism in the name of intolerance and fascism in the country will always be condemned.
The influential Bodo student group also appealed to all fellow citizens to refrain from violence and terror to give peace a chance.
In his inaugural speech, former ABSU president and BTC member Rwn Gwra Narzary stressed rooting out the new face of technology-enabled terrorism and appealed to the youth to avoid all forms of anti-social activities. Play the role of the anti- terrorism the concept must be understood by the new generations.
Speaking on the occasion, ABSU president Pramod Boro opined that the concept of terrorism had changed and Bodo society had experienced all forms of terrorism. He said the time has come to explore better and affirmative forms of democratic and non-violent forms of movement, while spreading awareness against terrorism.
Boro conceded that IT-enabled terrorism was a major challenge to modern day society and called upon the Bodos to remain peaceful while pursuing a democratic movement to resolve the pending issues of the community.
