Priyada Gogoi, the mother of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi has reportedly launched a hunger-strike after her son was sent to 10-days NIA custody amid the ongoing Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam.
Akhil's old and decrepit mother, who is suffering from eye-disease, requested the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, "It is my appeal to Sarbananda Sonowal to release my son, Akhil, unconditionally. I am sick, I cannot say much. He (Akhil) should come here and cure me of my ailment. He had said that he would come."

Priyada, who has self-avowedly become partially blind, told reporters that she has lost her sight. "I do not see properly. My vision has become distorted."
The old lady has also informed that she is suffering from Diabetes. "He (Akhil) had said that he would come, but he hasn't. My sugar levels have touched 300", Akhil's mother says, with tears in her eyes.
Meanwhile, Priyada's son, Akhil, is in NIA custody, amid the Government's attempt to silence the opposition to the amendment of the Citizenship Act, that was enacted recdently.
Meanwhile, calls for Akhil's immediate release have already begun in earnest. In Assam, students from Cotton University staged a protest in front of the main gate demanding Akhil's immediate release. Over in Delhi, the Student Union of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have resolved to gherao the Assam Bhavan in the national capital Monday to demand the Government to release Akhil.
