Assam issues directives for Eid al-Adha; details here

GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta today announced the new SoPs which will be in place until further orders. Health Minister Mahanta also announced the rules for the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations.

According to the directives released today, all persons are to celebrate in their homes. Namaz at Mosque would be allowed with only 5 persons. This will include the religious head. The wearing of face masks will be compulsory in all public places -- including in the mosques.

Assam's new SoPs:

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has issued a revised and consolidated directive today for both rural and urban areas which will remain in force w.e.f 5 AM of July 20, 2021 until further order.

Five districts -- Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Biswanath -- shall be put under total containment. In these districts, curfew will be observed around the clock. In two districts where the case rate has dropped off somewhat -- namely Goalpara and Morigaon -- curfew will be from I pm to 5 am. In all the other districts, curfew will be observed from 5 pm to 5 am.

There will be a total ban on the movement of all public and private transport in the containment districts. However, the movement of goods shall continue.

Public gatherings shall be banned in total containment districts. In other districts, up to 10 persons are allowed for marriage or funeral programmes.

Mahanta today also announced that the excise authority will take strong action against the illegal production and sale of country liquor in all the districts.
