Kokrajhar, May 30, 2019:

In the special operations carried out by Kokrajhar police, they recovered one AK 56 Rifle, three magazines and 90 (ninety) rounds of ammunition from the house of Banendra Ishwary from Oxiguri part 1 village under Gossaigaon PS.

It may be mentioned that one National Democratic Front of Boroland- Songbijit (NDFB-S) cadre has been apprehended on Wednesday morning from Kachugaon Police Station area in a joint operation launched by SDPO, Gossaigaon along with Army and Cobra.

The team seized one 7.65 mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition from his possession.

On further interrogation of Narzary, one AK-56 rifle, one magazine and 21 rounds of ammunition were recovered from his house.

He was earlier arrested in the year 2017. His elder brother, self- styled Sergeant Major Sandw was killed in an encounter with police in December 2017.

It is to be added that the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) is an armed separatist outfit which seeks to obtain a sovereign Boroland state separate from Assam. It is designated as a terrorist organisation by the Government of India. The militant group divided into NDFB (P), the progressive faction supported peace talks with the government, while the faction led by Nabla opposed the talks.

In 2012, following the arrest of their chairman, NDFB of Nabla faction split further, leading to the formation of another new faction, which was led by a non-Bodo I K Songbijit as an interim president of the interim council. This faction continued to indulge in militancy, and has been blamed by the government for May and December 2014 attacks.
