At a time when the entire state is head over heels in rage against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the BJP-led government in Assam has been playing a diplomatic role.
In an interview with the BJP state President, Ranjit Kumar Das his statements didn't reveal any concrete stance. Moreover he refrained from saying clearly about the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Instead he urged the people to wait till June 30, when the second draft of the NRC will be published. His opinion about the Assam Accord is what got our heads scratching. At one hand he opined that he has full respect for the Assam Accord, on other hand he scrutinized the Assam Accord in his support for the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Does only time will reveal the faith of Indigenous people in Assam. And as they say 2019 elections aren't far and people’s mandate do count.
