Golaghat, January 24, 2020:

Payment has become the "issue" in the Assam BJP rally, Sankalpa Samaroh, that was taken out in support of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA.

Soon after videos of women refusing to attend the rally in exchange of a meager amount of Rs 30 went viral, reports of another lot, this time of around 52 men, are being circulated widely.

One of the men alleged that they were brought at the venue with an offer of Rs 200 but they did not receive the promised sum. "We came from Singimari (a nearby village) to attend the BJP meeting. They said that all 52 of us will get Rs 200 in return of attending the meet but till now we have not received anything," said one of them.

They also complained about being unable to eat on time because of nonpayment of the sum. In another report, women had allegedly refused to attend the BJP rally in return of Rs 30. They were reportedly ferried to the BJP rally in Bokakhat town free-of-charge.

It may be mentioned here that the Assam BJP has been accused of luring people to attend pro-CAA rally time and again. The ruling party's mega event in Morigaon conducted in support of the CAA had also drawn criticism. There were reports of daily wage laborers being ferried from remote villages in exchange of paying them Rs 200-250.
