Guwahati, April 5, 2019:

Assam’s BJP President Ranjeet Kumar Dass was left red-faced when a BJP rally in Chergaon under Udalguri district that was held on Thursday was attended by only a handful of people. The rally was held in support of Mangaldoi Lok Sabha Constituency candidate Dilip Saikia.

Weather also played a spoilsport as rain perhaps prevented many supporters of the saffron party from coming out of their houses to support the party candidate Saikia and empty chairs greeted the leaders at the venue as the BJP party were unable to attract an adequate number of supporters at the venue.

The flop show of the BJP in Udalguri raises some interesting questions. Is the no-show of supporters at the rally a sign of troubling times ahead for the ruling party? And if that is so, will it lead to a Congress win in the vital Mangaldoi Contituency?

Mangaldoi Constituency will head to the polls during the second phase of voting on April 18.
