16 July 2018:
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Monday alleged that proper guidelines had not been followed in the ongoing updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
He alleged that the process of verification of documents was not done properly by the officers of NRC seva kendras. He claimed the updation was being done by the seva kendras based on prepared lists sent from the office of NRC state coordinator.
He alleged that the BJP was using the NRC updation process to serve its political purpose and agenda.
“The NRC officials didn’t follow the direction of the Supreme Court while updating the register. The Centre has ordered the exclusion of people belonging to a particular religious community. Names of genuine citizens of India should not be excluded from the NRC at any cost.” Bora insisted.
Speaking on Raha toll gate, he said 70 per cent of the amenities of the National Highway had not been completed and that the toll gate had been erected hastily. The taxes charged by the toll gate are the highest in India, he claimed.
Also speaking, leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia demanded a thorough probe into coal syndicate.
