Assam | Blast rocks Namrup's BVFCL fertilizer plant today

Namrup, May 19, 2019:

In the early hours of the morning on Sunday, a blast occurred at Assam the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) plant located in Namrup district. As per reports, the blast occurred at the second unit of the BVFCL.

In the second unit of the BVFCL, a pipeline carrying gas to the 'Ammonia plant' exploded causing much alarm in the region.

Much damage was caused by the blast at the Amonia Plant's Broiler Composer House and many manufacturing instruments were destroyed.

According to the BVFCL employees, the blast occurred due to a blockade in the composer house. It may be mentioned that although the house needs to be checked every single due due to security reasons, it has remained largely neglected due to a shortage of employees.

It may be mentioned that the blast could be heard at least fifteen kilometres away. Moreover, the production in the second unit of the manufacturing plant has been completely halted due to the accident.

Moreover, the BVFCL has incurred a lot of losses due to the blast.

Thankfully, not a single person was injured in the blast.

The Namrup Fertilizer Complex was renamed as Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited after bi-furcation from Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited from 01/04/02.

It is located on the bank of Dilli river in the south-western border of Dibrugarh District in Assam. It is the first factory in India, who use natural gas as basic raw material for producing nitrogenous fertilizer.

Till the sixties Namrup was not known to the rest of the country. Discovery of oil and natural gas in Naharkatiya region promoted a serious thinking on proper utilization of gas.
