Assam: CAB Protester Admitted in ICU after being Shot by Police

Guwahati, December 12, 2019:

A person who was injured during a police firing incident at Lalung Gaon area in Guwahati, Assam, has been admitted in the emergency Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Thursday.

The injured person has been identified as Abdul Ali who is now admitted in the ICU under critical condition was protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill along with others.

Speaking with Inside Northeast, Abdul's uncle, Lufur Rahman said, “The police open fired on the protestors and during this, my nephew got hit on the head. The doctors have said that the bullet is stuck in his head, and cannot give assurance that he will survive this...”

The incident was reported in the morning when the people were protesting on the streets and a clash broke out between the protesters and the security forces. The protesters pelted stones at the police, and in retaliation, the police blank fired on them. In the firing, as many as four protesters were injured.

It is to be mentioned here that the people in Assam have staged massive protests despite curfew. People from all sections of the society have joined in to protest against the contentious Citizenship Bill in Guwahati city, which has now become the epicentre of the protests.
