Amid the Citizenship Bill ruckus in the Northeast, one man in particular has borne the brunt of the protesters' wrath in Assam. The man is none other than the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora, who has now been made to commit 'suicide' for failing to uphold his own ideals.

In a unique protest, some unidentified miscreants on Tuesday presented a dummy as Bora, complete with a 'suicide note'. In the dummy Bora's suicide note, it was written, "I am Atul Bora. Eventually, to protect my Ministerial position, I sold my 'mother' Assam and supported the CAB. By supporting the CAB, I insulted the 855 martyrs of the Assam Agitation. In grief over this, I have committed suicide in front of the AGP office. -- With sadness, Atul Bora."
Soon after, the pictures of Bora's 'suicide' and the note started going viral on Whatsapp, with many using it as a 'meme' to troll the Assam Minister. A source told Inside Northeast that it has been suspected that students aggrieved at the Centre's move to implement the CAB are probably behind this, although the identity of the miscreants is as of yet unknown.
Bora, who has been avoiding the 'uncomfortable questions' about the Bill, and recently said that the AGP's stand on the Bill will depend on the 'content of the draft', has been accused of selling out his people for the BJP's interests.
The leader of Assam's largest regional party has also come under fire from the peasant leader Akhil Gogoi. Akhil has alleged that Bora and his AGP brethren, instead of presenting genuine concerns to Shah about the Bill in a recent meet, chose to discuss some issues of lesser importance instead.
Bora and his AGP party have also come under fire from indigenous organizations as the AGP was birthed from the ashes of the 6-years long Assam Agitation, with a view to uphold and protect 'Assamese identity'.
