The General Secretary of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the current government’s move to suspend the internet was a clear sign of suppressing the free speech.

“The government is trying to shut the democratic voice of the united people of Assam. By bulldozing the protests against the Citizenship Bill in Assam, they are doing injustice to its own people,” said Gogoi.

He was seen at the 11-hour hunger strike called by AASU in opposition to the CAB that was cleared by the Rajya Sabha to provide citizenship to undocumented non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

“It is a clear expression of anger. People of Assam, rural or semi-urban, have gathered here today to oppose the Bill. But this government has a fascist mentality. They are trying to marginalize the people of Assam,” said Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

He added, “We will not shut up. The strength of the Assamese can be seen here today.

People, young and elderly, were seen in the gathering at the Chandmari field in Guwahati today. It may be mentioned here that widespread protests have been going on in Assam over the Citizenship Bill and the agitation turned massive post the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passage. The people of Assam have been opposing the Bill as it poses a threat to the indigenous people and their rights.
