Assam: Case Registered Against Rehna Sultana for Pro-Pakistan Post on Facebook

Guwahati, August 14, 2019:

A case has been given against the Gauhati University (GU) scholar, Rehna Sultana (hailing from Boko in Assam) who had allegedly posted a pro-Pakistan post on social media platform, which caused much sensation in social media circles.

This development has occurred after a message posted by the girl on Facebook started doing the rounds on social media circles and soon came to the notice of some sections of the media. As a consequence, a case has been filed against the P.hD scholar at the Jalukbari Police station.

The girl in question, Rehna Sultana, had earlier taken to to Facebook to post the following statement on the occasion of Bakr-Eid. She wrote, “Today, we are also participating in Pakistan’s joy by gorging on beef! What I eat, depends on the interest of my taste buds! However, don’t make yourselves the subject of controversy simply by talking about the taboo subject of ‘beef’.

Addressing the media, Guwahati Commissioner Deepak Kumar said, "We have seen the case and have started an enquiry at the Jalukbari Police Station. We are trying to locate the girl and the case ."

In a similar incident, a Kokrajhar youth called Aziyar Rahman, a resident of Fakiragram in Kokrajhar district in Assam, was arrested on Tuesday after it came to light that he had uploaded and shared posts mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Facebook.
