GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced that lower grade police officials rendering 'exemplary' service will be promoted up to the rank of Inspector.
Speaking on the occasion of International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking as well as on the felicitation ceremony of hero cop Borsing Bey, the Chief Minister said, "Any Constable, Home Guard or SI showing 'exemplary' conduct will be promoted up to the rank of Inspector".

However, he added that 'exemplary' doesn't mean just a recommendation from a senior official. "One has to truly display an exemplary conduct", he said.
The Chief Minister further said the matters relating to medical treatment and housing of Police officials will be discussed.
He assured that facilities including medical reimbursement, free medical checkup, free medical treatment and maximum housing satisfaction will be taken into consideration.
"In the upcoming cabinets we will discuss about the implementation of the special leave scheme for Battalion constables", he added.
Adding that the state government has taken several initiatives for the welfare of the officials, the Chief Minister said that more details will be revealed in the budget sessions.
