According to reports, the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has assured that the Hindu Bengalis omitted from the final National Register of Citizenship (NRC) need not worry.
A meeting was held between the members of the All Assam Bengali Students Federation (United) and the CM, along with other senior officials of the state govt regarding implementation of CAB. The organization stated that assurance was given by the CM that Bengali Hindus whose names are not in the NRC, need not worry.
Mahananda Sarkar Dutta, one of the members of the organization, said that the CM said that the Bengali community would be protected under any cost. "He said that all documents will be verified. He said that citizenship and migration certificates should be accepted", he said.

It may be mentioned here that over 12 lakh Bengali Hindus' names were among the 19 lakh who were omitted from the final NRC list.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has resolved to evict all illegal immigrants in India ahead of the 2024 polls in the country. Shah announced this during a rally held in Haryana’s Kathal district on Wednesday.
Shah said that the ruling BJP administration would implement the NRC, and throw each and every illegal immigrant outside the country. “In 2024, we will come to ask for your votes again. However, we promise to deport every single illegal immigrant country from the country before that happens.” Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had promised to implement the NRC in the State soon.
