Tinsukia, January 10, 2020:

Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, lashing out at the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, said that he only sings hymns and wears the ‘tika’ (mark) on his forehead and does little of note.

While addressing a Congress Workers’ Meet at Durgabari in Assam’s Tinsukia district, Harish Rawat, taking a jibe at the Assam CM, said, “Sonowal does not do anything. He just sings hymns and wears the tika on his forehead.”

Criticizing the state's leader for his apathetic attitude towards the concerns of the general public, Rawat condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘oppression’ in Assam to quell the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (or CAA).

Harish Rawat went on to call the BJP’s obsession with CAA a 'gimmick'. “Prime Minister Modi only cares about a few people and he works for their interests only. His agenda does not have a place for the public, youths, farmers or small-scale businessmen. This is why the economy has tumbled. Unemployment has risen. Crimes against women have also increased. Modi-led government is trying to divert the attention from the real issues through CAA,” he said.
