New Delhi, August 19, 2019:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today was met by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the former's office in North Block and discussed on law and order issues

and the steps to be taken in the run up to the NRC Publication on August 31.

The Union Home Minister assured all help for the state to maintain law and order before,

during and after the final publication of the NRC.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sonowal elaborated on the security apparatus put in place in Assam in the event of any law and order situation. He also informed the Union Home Minister that the people of Barak-Brahmaputra, hills and plains extended all cooperation to the state government during the ongoing NRC updation process  which is being carried out in the state under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India.

The Assam CM told the Union Minister that during the first and final draft publication of the NRC, people of the state showed immense maturity and this time, the government expects a similar response.

It is to be mentioned here that over the past few months, the Assam NRC has been a matter of concern all over the state of Assam. While people have been rushing to the centres with documents to prove their citizenship, organisations, and activists have been demanding a 100 percent re-verification of the document.
