Guwahati, January 6, 2019:

Amid increasing concerns about the efficiency with which the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) is run, it has come to light that the ACA President might be living in the official residence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

According to the official website of the ACA website, the address of the President, Romen Dutta, is listed as the Brahmaputra Guest house at Uzanbazar in Guwahati. Ironically, this also happens to be the official residence of the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is said to be extremely close to the ACA President, who is a businessman hailing from Charaideo in Upper Assam.

It may be mentioned that the ACA is coming under increasing scrutiny following the inability of the cricket body to organize a twenty-twenty cricket match between India and Sri Lanka after rain had left the pitch damp.

Despite the best efforts of the authorities (who even tried to dry the soaked pitch with blow-dryers, steam irons and vacuum cleaners),

Now, accusations are being made that that the entire state was left shame-faced because of the inefficiency of the Assam cricket body. Some are even pointing out that the top-level honchos were appointed due to nepotism. A popular Twitter account, Voice of Assam, slamming the current administration, alleged, "When a businessman (is) made President of Cricket Association then these things bound to happen. – Ramen Dutta, ACA President, is close to CM Sarbananda Sonowal – Debajit Saikia, ACA Secretary, is known for his closeness with Himanta Biswa Sarma (as per the news)."

Meanwhile, Tarun Gogoi, the 3-time former Chief Minister of the State demanded the resignation of the ACA members while addressing the press today. "We constructed the fields, they have not been able to host the match even. They could not even dry the pitch. That is indeed shameful. The pride of Assam has been hurt on the national and international stage. Because of 2-3 people, we have been shown to be useless in front of the world. They should not only apologize, they should, in fact, resign", Gogoi said.
