Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was reportedly trapped at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport for several hours amid the ongoing Citizenship (Amendment) Bill protests, which have been raging across Assam.
According to reports, Sonowal, who had landed from Tezpur, was forced to wait in the VIP lounge of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport for several hours, as his convoy could not roll out due to protests.

The protests over the Bill intensified during the day as throusands marched onto the streets demanding the immediate withdrawal of the contentious Bill. It has been reported that at least 25 persons -- including many students -- have been injured during clashes between the police and the security personnel.
It may be mentioned here that Sonowal has been one of the prime targets of the anti-CAB protesters due to his alleged silence over the contentious issue.
Recently, Sonowal had landed in the soup after appearing to dissuade people from protesting. His detractors claimed that Sonowal himself had risen through the ranks through democratic protests.
