Alleging that Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma and his close aides are involved in the illegal coal mining and syndicate in Upper Assam, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded a CBI inquiry.
Speaking to the media, senior spokesperson APCC, Durga Das Boro said that they have found about MLA Bhaskar Sharma and his close aides being linked with the alleged illegal coal syndicate in Upper Assam.
He in order to prove his point, presented some videos and photos in front of the media where it was seen that trucks loaded were coal were plying on the roads from certain mines in the area.
Boro alleged that the MLA's close aides include his right hand Govind Chhetry, relative Bishnu Sharma, media coordinator Sagar Bhuyan along with few other men are directly linked with the illegal syndicate. These people were named in a report by the mines and minerals department but the Assam Government never took any action against these people.
Boro added, "Since there are many allegations of police as well as administrative officials being involved in the syndicate, we want an enquiry by the CBI on the whole issue.
Earlier the Assam Youth Congress on Sunday alleged that an illegal coal syndicate is going on in Upper Assam, and dared Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to order a CBI enquiry into this matter.
State Youth Congress president, Kamrul Choudhury, alleged that the syndicate is functioning under the current Sarbananda Sonowal-led government and very soon, threatened to initiate a massive protest against it.
Kamrul added, “If Sarbananda Sonowal is not connected, then how did his name get involved in this? One can be wrapped up in controversy only if the person is somehow connected to it. If Sarbananda Sonowal is not connected to the syndicate, then he should prove it by ordering a CBI enquiry into it.”
He added that the BJP government came to power by keeping a “zero-tolerance against corruption” as a prime issue but after coming to power, it seems that they too are engaged in various corrupt practices.
