Assam Congress Leader Angkita Dutta Chosen for “Women’s Political Power” Project in US

Guwahati, February 26, 2020:

Daughter of former Assam Congress Chief late Anjan Dutta and Assam Pradesh Youth Congress’ Deputy president, Angkita Dutta has received the honor to attend a nineteen-day project for India called “Women’s Political Power: Negotiating Space at the Decision Makers’ Table” in the US.

The project with India as its main focus will mainly revolve around the history and current state of women’s political participation international cooperation for increasing the same.

The main objective of the “Women’s Political Power: Negotiating Space at the Decision Makers’ Table” is to encourage women’s participation in politics. Angkita Dutta will be participating in the project, which will help her understand the global politics and women’s power in the same.

The program has listed its objectives as examining the US political system and the participation of women leaders at the local, state, and national levels, exploring programs and initiatives that encourage young women to get involved in civic activities, including running for elected office, examining the role that women's organizations take in shaping political dialogue and gain an understanding of effective interaction and support among women across various sectors.

The project will also highlight legislation and programs that promote equal pay and fair treatment for women in both civic life and the workplace, introduce initiatives and legislation that address women's needs in the social arena, including health care, employment, education, and childcare and demonstrate women's political and civic interest in and contributions to broader policy issues, including legislation that affects foreign, military, and economic policy.

It may be mentioned here that Angkita Dutta was a student of Political Science and Law. She had also taken up Women and Gender Studies and Human Rights as her subjects for studies.
